Privacy Policy
Applies to the Roku Screen Mirroring app for Android & iOS · Last updated
This document covers only the Roku Screen Mirroring app. Every Remote Cast Labs app has its own privacy policy and terms — you can find them all in the Legal center.
The short version
- Everything you cast — your screen, photos and videos — streams directly from your phone to your TV over your own Wi-Fi. It never touches our servers, and we can't see it.
- We collect a small amount of device, usage and crash data so we can keep the app fast and reliable.
- We never sell your personal data, and we don't share it for third-party marketing.
- Subscriptions are billed by the App Store or Google Play — we never receive your card details.
- Email support@remotecastlabs.com anytime to access, correct or delete your data.
This summary is here for convenience — the full text below is what applies.
1. Who we are & what this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains how Remote Cast Labs ("Remote Cast Labs", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses and protects information when you use the Roku Screen Mirroring mobile application (the "App") and the support services that come with it.
This policy covers only the Roku Screen Mirroring app. Every Remote Cast Labs app has its own privacy policy and terms of service, all published in our Legal center.
By downloading or using the App you agree to the practices described here. If you don't agree, please don't use the App. If anything is unclear, email us at support@remotecastlabs.com — we're happy to explain.
2. Information we collect
We designed the App to work with as little data as possible. What we do handle falls into a few categories:
- Information you send us. If you contact support, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach (like screenshots). Sharing this is always your choice.
- Device & app information. Phone model, operating system and version, app version, language, country or region, and pseudonymous identifiers — random IDs that are not your name, phone number or email address.
- Usage & diagnostics. Events such as "a mirroring session started" or "a feature was tapped", plus crash logs and performance data (like session length or frame-rate statistics). These tell us that a feature was used — never what was on your screen.
- Purchase information. If you buy a subscription, Apple or Google processes the payment and confirms the purchase to us (product, status and a receipt token) so we can unlock premium features. We never receive your card number or full billing details.
- Local network information. To find your TV, the App scans your Wi-Fi network for cast-compatible devices and reads their names, model identifiers and local IP addresses. This is used on your phone to establish the connection — it is not collected by our servers.
We do not collect your contacts, your precise location, or the content you mirror — more on that next.
3. Your screen, photos & videos stay on your network
Mirroring happens entirely over your local network. When you cast, the App encodes your screen, photo or video on your phone and streams it directly to your Roku device over your Wi-Fi.
- The content you cast never passes through Remote Cast Labs servers. We cannot see it, and we never receive, store, record or share it.
- Photo and media library access is used only to show your library inside the App and to cast the items you pick. Your photos and videos are not uploaded to us.
- Screen mirroring starts only after you confirm the operating system's prompt (Android's screen-capture dialog or iOS's broadcast picker) and stops when you end the session.
Because the stream stays on your network, what you cast is between your phone, your TV and you.
4. App permissions and how they're used
The App asks only for permissions it needs to work, and you can change any of them later in your device settings:
- Local network / nearby devices — to discover Roku devices on your Wi-Fi and connect to them.
- Photos & media — to let you browse and cast your own photos and videos. On iOS and recent Android versions you can grant access to selected items only.
- Screen capture / broadcast — to mirror your display. The operating system asks for your confirmation before every mirroring session.
- Notifications (optional) — to show casting status and, only if you opt in, occasional product updates.
Denying a permission only limits the related feature — the rest of the App keeps working.
5. How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- provide the App's features — discovering your TV, connecting, casting and remembering your in-app preferences;
- unlock and manage purchases you make;
- fix crashes, monitor performance and improve reliability and features;
- respond when you contact support;
- keep the App secure and prevent fraud and abuse; and
- comply with legal obligations.
We do not use the content you cast for any purpose — it never reaches us in the first place.
6. Analytics and advertising
We use a small number of third-party providers for analytics and crash reporting. They process the device and usage information described above on our behalf, under contracts that limit what they can do with it.
The free version of the App may show ads served by third-party advertising partners. Ad partners may collect device advertising identifiers and similar signals under their own privacy policies to serve and measure ads — and to personalize them only where you have consented. Your choices:
- iOS: the App can only track you across other companies' apps if you allow it in the App Tracking Transparency prompt. You can change this anytime in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android: you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads.
- EEA, UK and similar regions: we ask for consent before any personalized advertising, and you can change your choice in the App's settings at any time.
- Everywhere: where the App offers an ad-free premium upgrade, subscribing removes third-party ads.
For the current list of our analytics and advertising partners, email support@remotecastlabs.com.
7. When we share information
We never sell your personal data, and we don't share it with third parties for their own marketing. We share information only:
- With service providers — hosting, analytics, crash-reporting, advertising and support vendors that process data on our behalf and only on our instructions;
- With app store platforms — Apple and Google, to process your purchases and subscriptions;
- For legal reasons — when required by law, or when necessary to protect the rights, safety and security of our users, the public or Remote Cast Labs, or to enforce our terms;
- In a business transfer — if Remote Cast Labs is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, this policy continues to apply and we'll notify you of any change in ownership or use of your data; and
- As aggregated or de-identified data that cannot reasonably identify you — for example, overall download or usage statistics.
8. How long we keep information
We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, then delete or de-identify it. As a rule of thumb:
- diagnostic and analytics data is kept for a limited period — typically measured in months, not years — before being deleted or aggregated;
- support conversations are kept for as long as needed to resolve your request, plus a reasonable period so we can help with follow-ups; and
- purchase records are kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require.
You can ask us to delete your data earlier at any time — see Your privacy rights & choices.
9. How we protect information
We use administrative, technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the small amount of data we handle: encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for information sent to us, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. Casting itself stays inside your own network and never travels over the internet to us.
That said, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your interaction with us is no longer secure, contact us immediately at support@remotecastlabs.com.
10. Your privacy rights & choices
Wherever you live, you can email support@remotecastlabs.com to access, correct or delete the information we hold about you. We may need to verify your request, and we'll respond within the time required by applicable law.
EEA, UK & Switzerland. We process personal data (a) to perform our contract with you (providing the App), (b) for our legitimate interests (improving, securing and supporting the App), (c) with your consent — for example, personalized ads — and (d) to comply with legal obligations. You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. You can also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
California. The CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know, correct and delete personal information, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing". We do not sell personal information. To the extent an ad partner's use of identifiers counts as "sharing", you can opt out through the App's ad and consent settings or by emailing us. We will never treat you differently for exercising your rights.
Other regions. Many other places — including Brazil, Canada and Australia — grant similar rights. The same email works everywhere.
11. International data transfers
The limited data we collect may be processed in countries other than the one you live in, including by service providers in the United States and the European Union. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as standard contractual clauses — to protect information transferred internationally.
12. Children's privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the higher minimum age your country requires), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at support@remotecastlabs.com and we will delete it.
13. Roku devices & other third parties
The App works alongside products and services that we don't operate:
- Roku devices. Your Roku player or Roku TV and its software are provided by Roku, Inc. under Roku's own terms and privacy policy — mirroring displays your content on hardware we don't control.
- Channels and streaming services you launch or view on your TV have their own privacy practices.
- App stores. The Apple App Store and Google Play handle downloads, payments and subscriptions under their own policies.
Roku® is a registered trademark of Roku, Inc. Remote Cast Labs and the App are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Roku, Inc., and we are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App and the law evolve. If we make material changes, we'll let you know in the App or on our website before they take effect, and the "Last updated" date at the top will always show the current version. Continuing to use the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
15. How to contact us
Questions, requests or complaints about this policy or your data: email support@remotecastlabs.com — we usually reply within one business day.
